Redskins’ Draft Trade With Rams Leaves Browns Out In The Cold

The Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams reportedly agreed to a trade in the 2012 NFL draft next month. The Redskins will give up their No. 6 overall pick, two future first-round picks and a second-round pick in exchange for the Rams' No. 2 overall pick and, presumably, the rights to Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, who is widely considered the second best quarterback prospect behind Stanford's Andrew Luck.

The package is huge -- three first-round picks are involved. But if RG3 turns into a star, few will remember how much the Skins spent on him.

This does bring up an interesting situation in Cleveland. The Browns held the No. 4 overall pick so you'd think they would have had a better shot at this trade than Washington, whose pick was sixth. Cleveland reportedly hopped into the trade talks at the last minute but couldn't get anything. So the Browns, who have already said they're not in the Peyton Manning chase, won't be getting either of the top two quarterback prospects, which leaves them with the option of picking Ryan Tannehill. No offense to Ryan Tannehill, but it's hard to go from Manning to RG3 to Tannehill.

The Browns stil have Colt McCoy on the roster, so maybe they're sticking with him next season. Yet you can't help but feel the Browns came out of this as losers. Two teams willing to make bolder choices (and, to be fair to Cleveland, perhaps they're the wrong choices) are going to have the excitement of a franchise quarterback.

Give Browns fans credit. Over at SB Nation’s Dawgs By Nature, they appear to be responding rationally, noting that Washington gave up quite a bit to make this move.
