2012 NFL Draft Results: UConn DT Kendall Reyes Selected By The San Diego Chargers With The 49th Pick

With the 49th pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the San Diego Chargers select Connecticut Huskies defensive tackle Kendall Reyes. Reyes is the 68th-ranked prospect in the draft and the ninth-rated defensive tackle, according to Mocking the Draft's rankings.

Reyes was a four-year starter with the Huskies, earning first team All-Big East honors in his junior and senior seasons. He posted career-high marks as a senior with 46 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

Here’s what Mocking the Draft had to say about Reyes prior to the draft:

Strengths: Faced extra blockers as a senior and still showed his ability to disrupt the pocket and get into the backfield. Is a fluid athlete who can shoot gaps nicely. Given his agility, his best fit in the NFL could be at 3-4 end.

Weaknesses: Often raises his pad level as the play develops. Will have to become more aggressive with his hands instead of relying on angles and openings. Needs to be more alert when the ball is being run between the tackles.

The Chargers stay with defense in the second round, after picking South Carolina outside linebacker Melvin Ingram in the first round on Thursday.
