Former Midwestern State guard Amini Silatolu was selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers. Silatolu was chosen with the No. 40 overall selection.

Silatolu was projected as the No. 4 overall guard in this year's draft, according to Mocking the Draft. A combination tackle and guard at Midwestern State, the senior was a two-time All-American in 2010 and 2011. He is the highest-drafted Division II player since Jermane Mayberry was selected in the 1996 NFL draft.

Silatolu earned a grade of 84.7 at the NFL’s annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. The 6-foot-4, 311-pound 23-year-old put up 28 reps on the bench press, ran a 4.87 second 20-yard shuffle and a 5.43 40-yard dash. He has quickness, particularly for an athlete of his size, but has a lack of experience at guard and no notable explosiveness. He is expected to require a bit of work before he is ready to become an NFL starter.

In the first round, Carolina selected LB Luke Kuechly with the No. 9 pick.
