On day two, former Michigan St. Spartans defensive tackle Jerel Worthy was selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Worthy was chosen with the No. 51 overall selection in this year's draft. Worthy is the 46th-rated prospect in the draft and the sixth-ranked defensive tackle, according to Mocking The Draft's rankings

Here’s what Mocking the Draft had to say about Worthy prior to the draft:

Strengths: One of the quicker defensive tackles in this year’s class. When he gets a good first step, Worthy excels at firing through the gap and getting into the backfield. Uses his hands really well. Will be able to play early in his career because of his strong technical knowledge.

Weaknesses: Was a non-factor early in his senior season which brings up questions about his effort. Is easily neutralized if his first step fails. Doesn’t have quite enough power to handle double teams and will get lost in the wash.

Worthy joins Nick Perry, a pass rusher from USC, who the Packers drafted in the first round. The two combined should improve a defensive front seven that struggled in 2012.
