2012 NFL Draft Results: ASU QB Brock Osweiler Selected By Denver Broncos With 57th Pick

With the 57th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Brock Osweiler. Peyton Manning was signed in free agency, so the Broncos are hoping to set themselves up for the post-Manning era before it’s even really started.

Osweiler is the 62nd rated prospect in the draft and the fifth-rated quarterback, according to Mocking The Draft’s rankings.

The Broncos traded out of the first round completely and used their first second round pick on DT Derek Wolfe.

Osweiler only has one year as a full-time starter behind him, but he put up solid numbers on an average team with 4,036 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Here’s what Mocking The Draft had to say about Osweiler before the draft.

He’s a tall, strong-armed athletic passer with a quick release and a lot of room to grow. What keeps Osweiler from being an elite-level quarterback prospect is a lack of experience and some accuracy issues. It’s concerning that Osweiler didn’t take a hold of Arizona State’s quarterback job until the latter part of the 2010 season. Because of his lack of experience, he has some technical flaws and often works just the first read. With the right coaching and enough reps, though, Osweiler could develop into a very good NFL quarterback.
