Jacory Harris Invited To Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals Rookie Camps According To Report

Jacory Harris was one of South Florida’s favorite sons when he chose to stay home with much of the core of his national championship Miami Northwestern High and play for Randy Shannon’s Miami Hurricanes. Four years later, after an unremarkable college career that never featured more than nine wins or a finish higher than second in the ACC, Harris could begin his professional career in Miami, having reportedly been invited to rookie camp with both the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.

Harris, who struggled with his accuracy in his first three seasons at Miami, settled down in his senior year, completing 65 percent of his passes for 2,486 yards and 20 touchdowns against just nine interceptions and helping the ‘Canes knock off ranked Ohio State and Georgia Tech teams. But Miami struggled with its consistency, and turned down a bowl bid after going 6-6 in hopes of appeasing the NCAA in an ongoing investigation into rogue booster Nevin Shapiro providing illicit benefits to Miami players.

Harris could join a Dolphins roster with many quarterbacks — incumbent starter Matt Moore, first-rounder Ryan Tannehill, old hand David Garrard — and no clear-cut favorite to win the job. Or he could head to Arizona, where the quarterback situation features Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, and even less certainty.

A previous version of this post reported that Harris had been signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. That is not true, and the author deeply regrets the error.
