Jordan Jefferson Signed By Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed well more than a handful of undrafted rookie free agents, like most NFL teams after the NFL Draft. The Bucs also signed some rookie try-out free agents, such as former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The former LSU quarterback who was 24-8 as a starter for the national runner-up Tigers, was signed to a contract today by the Bucs after a strong performance in the weekend’s rookie minicamp.

Jefferson was the starting quarterback for most of the season for the 2011 LSU Tigers, including starting in the NCAA Championship game against Alabama, where the LSU offense infamously didn’t cross the 50-yard line.

“He’s an athletic guy who has a strong arm,” Buccaneers new head coach Greg Schiano told reporters. “We wanted to gauge his development as a quarterback. I thought he made consistent improvement all weekend. There’s a lot of upside there, so I think we would like to have a chance to work with him.”

Currently the Buccaneers have Josh Freeman and Dan Orlovsky under contract as their first and second string quarterbacks, but will have Brett Ratliff and fellow rookie Zach Collaros compete for the third quarterback position.
