The Baltimore Ravens have had recent success with one running back from a school off the beaten path. While suggesting that Western Kentucky's Bobby Rainey will be nearly as good as Ray Rice seems premature at best, Rainey's production as a collegian makes him one of the most interesting undrafted free agents the Ravens picked up in the wake of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Ravens Bring In Bobby Rainey Among Undrafted Free Agents, According To Report
Rainey was a workhorse at Western Kentucky, doing almost all of the heavy lifting on offense for the Hilltoppers from 2009 to 2011. In total, he racked up a staggering 6,906 total yards and ran for 4,542, topping the 1,600-yard plateau in 2010 and 2011.
That production was partly a factor of heavy use -- Rainey had 895 career carries -- and came against lesser competition than most. But similar things could have been said about Rice.
On the other end of the production vs. talent argument, the Ravens also brought in Florida teammates John Brantley and Deonte Thompson. And in great name news, Baltimore picked up Kent State defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen.
