2013 NFL Draft: D.J. Fluker to announce plans on Wednesday

Fluker has made 35 career starts at right tackle for the Crimson Tide and was an AP second team All-American in 2012.

Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker said he will announce on Wednesday his decision to either return for his senior season or enter the 2013 NFL Draft, according to John Zenor of the Associated Press. Fluker is considered by SB Nation's NFL Draft Editor, Dan Kadar, to be a top 75 pick if he chooses to declare.

Fluker started nine of 10 games at right tackle as a redshirt freshman before starting all 13 games at the position in each his sophomore and junior seasons, for a total of 35 career starts in three seasons. He was a Walter Camp and Associated Press second team All-American for the 2012 season, but is still seen as a bit unpolished at the position.

At 6’6, 335 pounds, Fluker certainly has the size to be an NFL offensive lineman, but his stock is not among the elite offensive tackles due to the fact that he will likely be relegated to the right side or forced to move inside, according to Rob Rang of CBS Sports.

At his size, Fluker is strictly a right tackle or perhaps even a guard prospect as he hasn’t demonstrated the agility or balance necessary to handle NFL speed rushers on a consistent basis.

He hasn’t made many appearances in mock drafts, as Rang, Kadar and SB Nation’s Matthew Fairburn all passed on him in the first round of their mocks. However, he is projected as a solid second round pick and there are plenty of teams in need of a right tackle.

The Redskins and Jets are perhaps two of the neediest teams at the position, and could certainly make for logical landing spots for Fluker. They are far from the only two teams with right tackle deficiencies though, as well over half the NFL could use a right tackle or offensive guard with an early selection.

Alabama won their second-consecutive national championship on Monday night with a 42-14 dismantling of the previously undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
