NFL Free Agency 2012: Cortland Finnegan Drawing Interest From Detroit Lions

Tennessee Titans free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan is drawing interest from teams, including the Detroit Lions according to a report.

Free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan expects to draw interest from plenty of teams in the 2012 NFL offseason. One of those teams who seem to have a lot of interest and a dire need at the cornerback position are the Detroit Lions, according to a report Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press.

The Lions -- along with St. Louis, Dallas, Oakland, San Francisco, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville -- could make a play for Finnegan, according to the source.

Finnegan would command a contract similar to the five-year, $48.75-million contract Johnathan Joseph signed last year with Houston. Finnegan likely would seek a deal for at least $10 million per year for five or six years, according to the source.

While likely most memorable for his one-sided fight with Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, Finnegan is one of the better and most physical cornerbacks in the NFL. Finnegan made the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl and was named to the 2008 All-Pro team. Originally Finnegan was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

While Finnegan’s play on the field have earned him attention from teams, his antics on the field has also earned him some attention. Including the aforementioned fight with Andre Johnson, Finnegan has said to pride himself in being a “dirty player” and has been fined by the league multiple times in his career.
