Stevie Johnson, Bills Exchange Contract Proposals, According To Report

Free agent wide receiver Stevie Johnson and the Buffalo Bills have exchanged contract proposals, according to a report by Rodney McKissic of The Buffalo News. Johnson is currently scheduled to hit free agency in 2012 as an unrestricted free agent if a deal cannot be worked out by March 13, the official start of the new league year.

The Bills submitted a proposal over a week ago and Johnson’s agent, C.J. LaBoy, countered the team’s offer on Monday, according to the source. There have been no further talks although the two sides are scheduled to meet next week in Indianapolis.

Johnson broke out in his third season with the Buffalo Bills in 2010, catching 82 passes for 1,073 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Johnson repeated that performance in the 2011 season, hauling in 76 passes for 1,004 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Johnson was originally drafted by the Bills in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, but is looking to sign a long-term deal in Buffalo or somewhere else, if he hits free agency.
