Cullen Jenkins Reworks Deal With Eagles

Cullen Jenkins will be back with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012 after reworking his deal to make it considerably more salary-cap friendly on Tuesday (via ESPN). The defensive tackle had originally signed a five-year deal with the Eagles last July that included a $5 million roster bonus that was due next month. Without reworking the deal, it would have put the Eagles in a tough position as it would have dramatically effected how much he counted against the salary cap.

“We are very excited about having Cullen back on our football team,” general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement on the team’s website. “Cullen made an immediate impact for us this year on and off the field. We look forward to a great future together with him in an Eagles uniform.”

Under the new deal, he’ll receive his roster bonus but be paid $820,000 this year. He’s also due to be paid $1.5 million in 2013, along with a potential $1 million roster bonus.

Jenkins enjoyed a solid year in 2011. The 31-year-old made 40 tackles and 5.5 sacks and played in all 16 games.
