The Browns were prepared to use their franchise tag on LB D’Qwell Jackson. Instead, they were able to sign him to a multi-year contract.

    D’Qwell Jackson Gets $42.5 Million From Browns, According To Report

    The Browns were reportedly ready to slap the Franchise Tag on Jackson after the 28-year-old bounced back from missing most of the past two seasons with separate pectoral muscle injuries. Jackson played all 16 games for just the second time in his six-year career and improved on his previous best season, 2008. His 158 tackles were the most in the AFC and the second most in the NFL.

    There’s no word on the length of the deal or the terms involved.

    Jackson was widely expected to receive the franchise tag had the two sides not reached a deal. The franchise tag would have guaranteed him around $9 million in 2012 so it’ll be interesting to see what the final numbers on his deal look like.
