Jason Campbell Joins Chicago Bears On 1-Year Deal

The Chicago Bears, who had one of the worst passing offenses after Jay Cutler was lost for the 2011 season, have made an effort to address their depth with the signing of free-agent quarterback Jason Campbell to a one-year deal (via @AdamSchefter). Campbell was limited to just six games in 2011 after he suffered a broken collarbone in Week 6, but had been having a decent season for the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders went 4-2 in games Campbell started and he threw for six touchdowns and 1,170 yards, while rushing for two more touchdowns. He should be an immediate upgrade to the current backup situation in Chicago.

After starting strong under Cutler, the Bears offense lagged considerably after his injury. The Bears ended the season with the 26th best passing offense (188.0 yards per game), with backups Caleb Hanie and Josh McCown compiling about 1,000 passing yards over the final six games of the season. They also combined for five touchdowns and 13 interceptions as the Bears finished off the season by losing 5 of 6 games.
