Patriots Land Jonathan Fanene With 3-Year Contract

The New England Patriots have landed defensive end Jonathan Fanene in free agency, according to multiple reports. Fanene is a former seventh round pick in the 2005 NFL draft and spent all seven years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Patriots appeared focused on getting a defensive end in free agency with reports having them eyeing Red Bryant before the Seattle Seahawks re-signed him.

The Patriots will also be looking to add to the secondary in free agency.

This is New England's first signing of the free agency period, which is a departure from the activity in last year's free agency period. New England still seeks a receiver, perhaps someone like Brandon Lloyd.

As the Boston Globe’s Greg Bedard points out, you have to wonder what Bengals fans are thinking when they’re among the league leaders in cap space.
