The Buffalo Bills have done it. They've signed the top defensive player in free agency. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Bills have scheduled a 1:30 p.m. (ET) press conference to announce the addition of Mario Williams, formerly of the Houston Texans.
Bills Plan Press Conference To Announce Mario Williams Deal
Williams, the former No. 1 overall pick, is a major signing for the Bills, who said they wanted to make a "big splash" in free agency. His contract is expected to make him the highest paid defensive player in the game, which means it will surpass the six-year, $91.5 million deal Julius Peppers received from the Chicago Bears.
The Bills are in the AFC East and must face the New England Patriots twice a year. One of the only ways to slow down Tom Brady and Co. is to pressure him as much as possible. That's what Williams will do as the Bills return to the 4-3 defense.
The Bills aren’t usually known for spending big bucks in free agency but they landed the big fish with this one.
