Anthony Gonzalez Signs With New England Patriots

Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez has signed with the New England Patriots, the team announced today.

Desperately seeking a big-name wide-out since the departure of Randy Moss, Patriots fans out reveling in St. Patrick's Day celebrations will likely gloss with this signing, a typical bargain-basement deal frequently seen from this franchise.

While the Gonzalez signing simply prolongs the Brandon Lloyd-Josh McDaniels reunion, that deal appears to be moving in the right direction and would surely draw a rousing response from fans once it’s complete.

Gonzalez is not guaranteed a roster spot. With a number of slot and middle-of-the-field receiver already solidified on the Patriots’ depth chart, there will be plenty of competition for Gonzalez, if not limited room for him.

Last season, Gonzalez appeared in eight games for the Colts but failed to record a single reception. A former first-round selection, Gonzalez has played only 11 games in the past three years.
