John Elway Introduces Peyton Manning At Broncos Press Conference

It'll take a little while to get used to it but Peyton Manning will now be wearing No. 18 for the Denver Broncos. Owner Pat Bowlen, John Elway and Manning appeared at a Tuesday afternoon press conference at the Broncos complex. Manning said he will wear his same number, 18, that he wore for 13 seasons in Indianapolis.

Bowlen stressed that the organization’s goal was to win Super Bowls and Manning gives them a chance to do so. He also said the Broncos now had two Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Elway and, at some point in the future, Manning. Elway said he wanted to make Manning the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

“I believe he has a lot of great football remaining. We’ve had many conversations about football and what he was looking for and what we could give him. We’re thrilled he picked the Broncos. We think it’s a great situation. He’s a guy, as Pat [Bowlen] said, is a Hall of Famer. I told him in the process that my goal was to make Peyton manning the best quarterback to ever play the game and he has that ability.”

Manning said he woke up on Monday morning and called two other finalists in the process to tell them he had made his decision. After that, he called Elway and said he was ready to be a Bronco.

“I’ve always had a great deal of respect for John Elway. He is one o fhte best quarterbacks to ever play and his knowledge and respect for the game is evident in eveything he does. Talking football with John, coach Fox, and his staff, made me realize this is a great place to be. I called John Elway on Monday morning and told him I’m thrilled to be a Denver Bronco.”

Manning said Elvis Dumervil and Champ Bailey have been "blowing up his phone" during the process.

He also said his work with the Broncos will start immediately. After the press conference, he’ll meet with the trainers and stay in Denver for the week to begin working.
