Derrick Ward Will Not Be Re-Signed By Houston Texans, He Tweets

It wasn't long ago that Derrick Ward was a fairly productive player for the New York Giants or, at the very least, exceeding low expectations. It seems the veteran running back will now be looking for work, however, as the Houston Texans have apparently decided they won't be re-signing him.

This news comes courtesy of a “source close with the situation,” too, considering it was Ward himself that tweeted the news Monday night.

Yours truly is unaware of a statistic for “special teams demon,” but NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus gave some other reasons Ward might no longer be wanted by the Texans.

It also doesn't help that Ward is coming off his worst statistical season. Playing behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate, Ward averaged just 3.4 yards on 45 carries. His best season came in 2008, his last with the Giants, when he accounted for over 1,400 yards of total offense, led the league in averaging 5.6 yards per carry and landed a four-year, $17 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who later cut him after only one season.
