Super Bowl 2012: Some Patriots Have Waited A Long Time For This

The New England Patriots have been to so many Super Bowls over the past decade, it's easy to lose sight of how much turnover occurs between each one. Just because this is their fifth appearance since 2001, doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of players vying for their first ring. See Gerard Warren and Shaun Ellis, two veterans playing in the first Super Bowl of their 11 and 12-year careers, respectively.

“That’s the reason why I came here,” Warren told Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald. “The reason why I’m glad to be back. This is what it’s all about.”

Warren made just two playoff appearances in his time spent with the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders before joining the Patriots. Last week was his first time even making a conference championship game. Ellis, meanwhile, came one win away from the Super Bowl twice with the New York Jets the last two seasons, and lost.

“This is one of the reasons why I came here,” Ellis said. “I knew we would have an opportunity. We went to work and everybody just stayed focused. No selfish guys. All for one goal, just all for one goal. To be able to play in that next game, in the Super Bowl, it’s a great feeling. We’ll enjoy this and get ready for next week.”
