2012 Super Bowl Coin Toss Prop Bet: NFC Looks To Continue Improbable Streak

The most incredible thing about Super Bowl XLVI? The NFC will be looking to continue a 14-year winning streak — in the coin toss.

The NFC has won every coin toss since the Green Bay Packers won theirs against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII, a streak that defies credulity. The odds against 14 straight victories for either team in the game? 16,384 to 1.

Of course, while that sounds bad, and like the person putting together the pieces of metal that become Super Bowl coins has it out for the AFC, the chances of that string of 14 outcomes is no more or less likely than any other series of either/or outcomes; it’s exactly as likely as 14 straight flips coming up heads or tails.

That'll be a tough task for the New England Patriots on Sunday, but, well, the New York Giants might be tougher.

If you would like to bet on Super Bowl XLVI’s coin toss, bovada.lv gives -105 for both heads and tails, and for either the Patriots or the Giants winning the coin toss. If you would like to bet on whether the team that wins the coin toss will win the Super Bowl, you can get -115 for either yes or no.
