Super Bowl TV Ratings: Giants-Patriots May Have Set New Record

Super Bowl XLVI was a thriller as the New York Giants scored with less than a minute remaining to beat the New England Patriots, 21-17. And there was a record audience watching the game. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at his post-Super Bowl press conference that the TV numbers were "on par or ahead" of last year's game, which means this could end up being the most watched program in TV history.

Last year's Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, which was the most watched program ever, drew 111 million viewers and many expected this game to surpass that mark. The Vegas over/under on the number of people watching the game was 117 million so it'll be interesting to see how close they got to that number (or if they passed it).

The 2010 Super Bowl passed M*A*S*H* as the most watched program in history with 106.5 million viewers. The 2009 Super Bowl had 98.5 million viewers.
