Patriots Press Conference: Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft Reflect On The Season

The top two men in the New England Patriots organization, owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick, met with the media on Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after their Super Bowl XLVI loss to the New York Giants.

Kraft started things off thanking their fans for their efforts all season, something Belichick noted with the fans that lined up outside the stadium when they returned home earlier on Monday. Kraft said that with 32 teams you have a six percent chance of making the Super Bowl and a three percent chance of winning it, putting into perspective what the Patriots were able to accomplish this year. He said they’ve only had two losing seasons since he owned the team which means the expectations levels are high. He said he was proud of Belichick and the rest of the team.

Belichick was pretty quiet throughout the press conferene, as he was after the game on Sunday night. He didn't reflect much on the season but did mention the Steelers and Jets games during the season as critical points for the team.

Asked about Brian Waters and other players who could consider retirement or moving on, Belichick said it's best not to make life-altering decisions less than 24 hours after a game like that. He said it's important that everyone takes a step back and collects their thoughts.

Beiichick briefly addressed the decision to let Ahmad Bradshaw score with the Giants inside the 10-yard line as time winded down past the one minute mark. Belichick said he thought the Giants had a tremendous likelihood of making a field goal there if they didn't let them score. He said he preferred to have the ball last in the game, rather than let the Giants kicker decide it from a distance he was likely to make it.

But, even if this loss stings, the Patriots future is very bright with two first round picks and two second round picks in April’s draft. As usual, you can expect the Patriots to re-load moving into next season.
