Bret Bielema, Wisconsin Agree To Contract Extension Through 2016

Bret Bielema and the Wisconsin Badgers will be together for quite a while, after Bielema and Wisconsin agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2016 season.

The Wisconsin Badgers and head coach Bret Bielema have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the coach with Wisconsin until the 2017 season. Bielema got a $2.5 million raise last February and has his five-year deal extended until Jan. 31, 2017. Bielema was originally hired after the 2005 season, selected by Barry Alvarez to succeed him as head coach after serving as the school's defensive coordinator for two seasons.

Bielema, who got a raise to $2.5 million last February, had his five-year deal extended through Jan. 31, 2017. Bielema led the Badgers to their first back-to-back Rose Bowls in a dozen years.

The Badgers lost to Oregon, 45-38 on Jan. 2.

Wisconsin is 60-19 in six seasons since Bielema was promoted from defensive coordinator to replace the retiring Barry Alvarez.

Since Bielema has taken over as the head coach of the Badgers, Wisconsin has won at least 10 games each of the past three seasons and have done so in four of his six seasons as head coach. Bielema has taken the Badgers to back-to-back Rose Bowl’s losing both games and has won at least a share of the Big Ten title the past two seasons.
