It took a photo finish to decide Heat 1 of the Men’s Snowboarder X semifinals in Aspen on Saturday. With the last spot in the finals up for grabs, a photo review was needed to decide whose board edged across the finish line in third place. Jayson Hale and Bobby Minghini flew down the course and were dead even as they came down the final stretch. Both leaned back to put the front of their boards across the line and in the end, it was Hale who edged out Minghini to move on to the finals.

The Ski and Snowboarder X competitions are often considered among the most intense at the Winter X games, and this was as close as is it gets. It was the highlight of the day so far in Aspen.
