Meet Mr. Met / Greet Mr. Met

Two things I didn’t know before reading Richard Sandomir’s entertaining history of Mr. Met:

↵1. For something like 15 years, from the late ‘70s until 1994, Mr. Met disappeared.

↵2. The Mets’ first mascot was Homer the Beagle. An actual beagle, trained to run around the bases when the Mets hit a home run. They tried that in an actual game. Once.
