Jack Wilson officially retired last week, deciding not to scrap for another job after he was removed from the Braves’ roster. That means he played 1,370 regular-season games with nary a postseason appearance.
I am Jack’s painful drought
That wasn’t the active record, though. Adam Dunn holds that mark, with 1,719 regular-season games without a postseason berth. He’s likely to add to that mark this season and next, unless the White Sox can win three straight and get a lot of help from the Royals.
One last note on that list: Joe Torre is sixth all-time. Sometimes, when the universe makes things up to you, it doesn’t always pretend to be subtle.
