Sean Mannion injury: Oregon State analysts react to meniscus news

The Oregon State Beavers will be without Sean Mannion after he suffered an injury to his meniscus on Saturday.

On Tuesday, it was discovered that while the injury requires surgery, Mannion won’t miss the entire year. However, as Andy Wooldridge over at Building the Dam points out, it’s not entirely clear when he’ll be on the field again.

Best case projections based on others who have had meniscus clean-up procedures similar to what is believed to be needed here could have Mannion back in four weeks or so, but that’s speculative, and what doctors find inside Mannion’s knee could vary.

Wooldridge goes on to say that Mannion’s replacement is somewhat an unknown quantity:

Red-shirt junior Cody Vaz takes over as Oregon St.'s signal caller. Vaz has not appeared in a game this season or last, and saw only minimal action on 2010, when he completed 6 of 17 passes, for 48 yards, in 5 games, but has been on the active roster every game in all three seasons.

Through four games, Mannion has thrown for seven touchdowns and 1,358 yards.
