Matt Cassel injury: Chiefs QB ruled out, Brady Quinn will start

Brady Quinn will make his first start since 2009 for the Chiefs as Matt Cassel recovers from a concussion.

The Kansas City Chiefs will start quarterback Brady Quinn in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as Matt Cassel has yet to be cleared for play following a concussion, according to head coach Romeo Crennel via a Twitter report from the team's website.

Cassel was knocked down and had to leave the field during last Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, which brought on Quinn, who completed all three passes he threw for 32 yards in the contest.

After not practicing on Wednesday, Cassel was officially ruled out by his head coach in Thursday’s press conference. The team has stated since the injury, according to Arrowhead Pride’s report above, that they would be moving forward cautiously in regards to Cassel’s return to the field. This move certainly supports that way of thinking.

Quinn's last start took place in December of 2009 as a member of the Browns, as Cleveland got a 41-34 win over the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium.
