Robert Griffin III injury update: Redskins QB will play vs. Vikings

A concussion will not sideline the star rookie quarterback, as he will play against the Minnesota Vikings today.

Robert Griffin III, the Washington Redskins’ starting quarterback and first round 2012 NFL Draft pick, will play today against the Minnesota Vikings despite a concussion suffered last week against the Atlanta Falcons, per a tweet from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

During the third quarter of last week’s 24-17 Atlanta victory over Washington, Griffin left the game after taking a big hit to his head on a sack by Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. After the game, Washington head coach Mike Shanahan revealed that Griffin was diagnosed with a mild concussion, and did not give a timetable for Griffin’s recovery.

Even though Griffin did not report any concussion symptoms as early as Monday, RGIII was held out of Redskins practice until Wednesday of this week. During practice, he was not subject to contact and was continuously re-evaluated for concussion symptoms.

RGIII was named Rookie of the Month for September. He has eight total touchdowns on the season, four each through the air and on the ground.

The matchup between Minnesota and Washington kicks off this afternoon at 4:25 p.m. Eastern, and will be broadcast on FOX.
