Sometimes, games like Monday night's make us miss the old AFC West days with Dan Fouts and John Elway leading the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos. But at least the rivalry continues between a pair of teams that have had some epic battles in years gone by.
NFL picks against the spread, Week 6: Hard to choose against Chargers at home
The San Diego Chargers are but a slight favorite in Monday night’s game against the Denver Broncos.
There isn’t much to suggest that Monday night at Qualcomm Stadium will be any different. These longtime rivals are at the top of the division as it currently stands, even if San Diego is 3-2 and Denver 2-3.
The edge going in has to go to the Chargers, who are playing at home and who have caused problems for Peyton Manning in the past, in his Indianapolis Days. Manning is 11-4 in Monday night games, but he's lost a pair of playoff games to the Chargers and has had two games in which he threw a combined 10 interceptions against the Chargers.
Chargers QB Philip Rivers in 9-3 against the Broncos in his career.
This game could come down to defenses. The Broncos are fairly stingy against the pass, and San Diego has allowed the fewest total points in the division.
The Chargers are one-point favorites. They should win by a few more than that.
