eBay Item of the Day: The Ultimate GiantCard Player

Hours away from the Game 7 showdown between the National League’s two most successful franchises, one must wonder: Which player’s career best bridged the Cardinals and the Giants? My first thought was Johnny Mize, but, of course, it’s Hall of Fame second baseman Frankie Frisch. While Mize ranks among the WAR top 50 for both the Cards and Giants, he also spent a good deal of time with the Yankees, too. Frisch, on the other hand, split his long career only between the Giants and Cardinals with the result being that he is 13th all-time on the Giants career WAR list and 16th on that of the Cardinals. New York won four pennants and two world titles with Frisch and St. Louis did likewise, the last one coming in 1934 when Frisch was also the manager.

The Giants card for Frisch is from 1922, while the Cardinals entry is from the 1935 Diamond Stars series. You will see that there’s something similar about them.
