eBay Item of the Day: If You Can’t Win a Ring, Buy One

You saw what happened last night, and based on that, you know what’s going to happen the rest of the way, right?

No, you don’t.

Things could go exactly the opposite of the way they seemed last night. Four times in World Series history the team that won the opening game proceeded to drop the next four contests and bow out in five. The unhappy quartet:

1915 Phillies

1942 Yankees

1969 Orioles

1983 Phillies

After Game 1, each one of those teams and their fans felt exactly the way the Giants and their fans feel today - and look what happened.

So, if the Tigers follow in the footsteps of the 1915 Red Sox, 1942 Cardinals, 1969 Mets and 1983 Orioles, then they’ll all get a fancy ring. If not, one of them can buy this one given to their forebearers in 1968 and pretend they won.
