The San Francisco Giants are World Series champions once more. After fifty years in the Bay Area without a single title, the Giants have now won two championships in the last three years. San Francisco claimed their franchise’s ninth title Sunday night with a 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Tigers, sweeping a beleaguered Detroit team that scored just six runs in four games.

Following heroic performances from Pablo Sandoval, Madison Bumgarner and Ryan Vogelsong in Games 1-3, Marco Scutaro and Buster Posey took the spotlight in Game 4. Posey’s two-run home run in the sixth briefly gave the Giants a 3-2 lead, and Scutaro’s RBI single in the 10th drove in the World Series-winning run.
