Sutton, Grace won’t return to D’backs broadcast booth

Both of Arizona’s TV voices were off the air for much of 2012, for differing reasons. Neither will be back in 2013.

2012 wasn't a good year for the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a N.L. West title in 2011, they finished third in the division this year at 81-81.

And both of their television broadcasters did not finish the year with the team. Lead play-by-play voice Daron Sutton was suspended for insubordination around midseason and didn’t return, and color commentator (and former D’backs player) Mark Grace was taken off the air after he was arrested for DUI for the second time in a little over a year.

Thursday, team president Derrick Hall announced Sutton and Grace won’t be back:

Hall said the team had "philosophical differences" with Sutton, who was suspended after calling the June 20 game against the Seattle Mariners.

In August, Grace received his second DUI in 15 months. Hall said the club had told Grace after the first DUI that they could not keep him if it happened again.

Hall said the club is searching for replacements, and that he hopes to have new broadcasters in place within the next three weeks.

One person who won’t get the new job was the man who replaced Sutton:

Radio announcer Greg Schulte, who filled in for Sutton in the final three months of the season, will shift back to his old role.
