Terry Ryan removed any doubt about his role with the Twins on Friday when he announced during a news conference that he will be the general manager for the team in 2013 and that he would no longer bear the tag "interim" in his official title.

In a news conference, Terry Ryan announced that he will return as general manager in 2013 and that he will no longer bear the ‘interim’ tag.

Ryan served as the team’s general manager for two decades before retiring in October 2007. However, after Bill Smith took a different job in the organization, he returned as the interim general manager. Also announced during the Friday news conference was the decision to keep Ron Gardenhire as the manager of the Twins for the 2013 season.
The Twins finished with the American League’s poorest record for a second consecutive season at 66-96, three games better than their 63-99 record in 2011. During the conference, Ryan admitted that there are a lot of things to fix before the Twins can return to winning form:
“Obviously, we didn’t get where we wanted -- 66 wins doesn’t get it done,” Ryan said. “I can point to the starting pitching as one place we didn’t get it done. We didn’t score enough runs. We got a lot of guys on base. We just didn’t get them in.”
