The Cleveland Indians search for a new manager ended on Saturday, when the club agreed with Terry Francona on a four-year contract, according to Cleveland.com.

Francona will be replacing Manny Acta after the Indians faltered badly down the stretch. The job came down to the newly-hired Francona and Sandy Alomar Jr., who according to multiple sources were the only candidates throughout the process.

Francona managed the Philadelphia Philles before making his name with the Boston Red Sox. Of course, Francona had an incredible amount of success with Boston, winning two World Series championships in 2004 and 2007. He was let go after the 2011 season following a massive September collapse.

“I think Francona is a pretty good manager,” said one major league scout. “He’s very steady. He’s already dealt with the kind of team he’ll have in Cleveland [next year] with the teams he managed in Philadelphia.

"He's good with young players and he had to manage a lot of egos in Boston with Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon and guys like that. So he knows how to do that."

Francona has won 1,029 in his major-league managerial career.
