With left-hander Tom Milone starting for the A's and lefty-hitting catcher Alex Avila having played nine innings less than 24 hours earlier, Gerald Laird's getting the start behind the plate. And with Brennan Boesch left off the roster, little-used rookie Avisail Garcia -- he started only 11 games for the club during the regular season -- gets the nod in right field.
