On Drew Butera’s heater and Joe Inglett’s knuckler

Over at Reddit, a user asked what the target="new">fastest pitch thrown by a position player was. Well, say, that’s a heckuva question, and someone actually went through the Brooks Baseball logs to look through the last few seasons at least.

The slowest: Joe Inglett, 55.6 m.p.h. (!).

The fastest: Drew Butera, 94.4 m.p.h.

Here’s Inglett, who was throwing a knuckleball:

And here’s the very next pitch, but only because it’s funny.

That was a fair ball, by the way. If it dropped, I’m sure Brandon Phillips would have said, “No, no. Just throw to first. I’ll be on the Bench of Shame.”

And here’s the very next pitch, but only because it’s funny, especially to Twins fans who might be just a touch skeptical regarding Carlos Gomez’s hitting abilities.

Not sure if that Johan Santana trade is going to work out, guys.
