Mike Redmond, who served as a backup catcher for the then-Florida Marlins from 1998-2004 and was part of their 2003 World Series championship team, has been named the team's manager, according to Jon Heyman:

The Marlins had hired Ozzie Guillen just one year ago to manage on a four-year contract, but Guillen was fired after one disappointing 93-loss season, so the Marlins went to a popular player from their recent past to fill the position.

Redmond also played for the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians, hitting .287/.342/.358 in 2264 at-bats over a 13-year career. He has spent the last two years managing in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, at Lansing in the Midwest League in 2011 (where he led the team to the championship series before losing) and at Dunedin in the Florida State League in 2012.
