Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina 2012 final score: Yellow Jackets win in track meet

With an impressive offensive performance, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets outscored the North Carolina Tar Heels for the 68-50 win on the road on Saturday afternoon.

In a battle of high-powered offenses, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets scored a little more often than the North Carolina Tar Heels for a 68-50 win on the road on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing 29-28 at halftime, the Yellow Jackets exploded in the third quarter for 30 points, including a 100-yard touchdown return by Jamal Golden to open the half. Robert Godhigh also recorded two of his three touchdowns on the day in the third frame.

While neither defense performed well, the Georgia Tech unit came up with two key turnovers in the third quarter to slow down UNC's attack. The first came on a fumble recovery of a botched snap by Tar Heels quarterback Bryn Renner and the second was an interception of Renner.

UNC closed the gap to 58-50 early in the fourth quarter on a pick-six of Georgia Tech quarterback Vad Lee. From there, however, the Yellow Jackets didn't allow the Tar Heels to score again.

Georgia Tech pounded the ball on the ground, rushing for 380 yards, with eight players receiving carries. The two teams combined for 1,085 total yards and 16 touchdowns.

Box Score Hero: Vad Lee, despite throwing the ball only 10 times, had 169 passing yards and a touchdown, as well as 112 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

But Did They Cover? North Carolina wasn’t able to cover as the eight-point favorite.
