Cowboys vs. Eagles 2012: Defense gets it done for Dallas

A pair of defensive touchdowns spurred the Cowboys on to victory.

The Dallas Cowboys got a lot of help from their defense and special teams on Sunday. Those units provided three touchdowns in the 38-23 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday evening in Philly. Dwayne Harris got the special teams score with a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown.

That return broke a 17-17 tie with 13:35 left, but Dallas was not done. Just 50 seconds later Brandon Carr intercepted Nick Foles and returned it 47 yards to make it 31-17 in favor of the Cowboys. As SB Nation's Blogging the Boys stated, this secured a much needed victory:

The margin of victory was wholeheartedly due to three return scores; a punt, an interception and a game clinching fumble recovery in the end zone. The Cowboys had not scored a touchdown without the offense having a hand in it since the end of 2011, when Terence Newman returned an interception for a score. Today, Dwayne Harris, Brandon Carr and Jason Hatcher all made their way into the ledger. The defense also knocked Michael Vick from the game in the first half with a concussion, and despite some lapses of their own came through with several nice plays.

The defense was not done with the Carr return, as Anthony Spencer sacked Foles late and forced a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Jason Hatcher.

Tony Romo also threw for 209 yards and two scores to set up the closing run by the defense and special teams.
