Clay Matthews injury: Packers LB out versus Giants

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will not play against the New York Giants.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will miss his team's upcoming game against the New York Giants due to a lingering hamstring injury, NFL.com's Kareem Copeland reported Friday.

Matthews suffered the injury during the Packers' 31-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9. The Packers were on a bye in Week 10, and Matthews sat out Green Bay's 24-20 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 11. He was listed as doubtful by head coach Mike McCarthy earlier this week, and he missed Friday's practice.

Matthews is one of Green Bay’s top defensive players. So far this season, he has 31 tackles and nine sacks for the Packers. Green Bay’s defense ranks in the middle of the NFL pack this season, but the Packers are second in the league in sacks.

Green Bay received a piece of encouraging news on injured wide receiver Greg Jennings. Jennings, who hasn't played since Sept. 30 with an abdominal tear, was limited in practice Friday, and he is listed as questionable against the Giants.

The Packers and Giants meet Sunday night at New York’s MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on NBC.
