Jason Babin had at least 7 other suitors

Jacksonville used its high waiver position to snag an upgrade for its pass rushing unit.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed defensive end Jason Babin off of waivers Wednesday, but it appears they weren't the only team interested. According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, seven other teams sought Babin. Those teams included the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins, among others, according to Wilson.

Jacksonville picked up Babin on Wednesday after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles. According to NFL.com, the Jaguars will pay $1.69 million for the rest of Babin's 2012 salary, and will pay $4.225 million if he plays for them in 2013. Babin went to the Pro Bowl after recording 18 sacks last season. He racked up 5.5 sacks this season for the Eagles, who have been one of the major disappointments in the NFL in 2012.

There had been talk of Babin going to a playoff contender. NFL.com listed Denver, Detroit, New England and Chicago as previous possibilities. Instead, Babin heads to a Jacksonville team eager to improve its pass rush and raise fan interest. It’s unclear at the moment if Babin will continue to play in Jacksonville after 2012.
