The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired pitcher Esmil Rogers from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Mike Aviles and Yan Gomes.

The 27-year-old Rogers had a 4.69 ERA last season in 67 combined appearances between the Indians and Colorado Rockies. The right-hander was much more effective in Cleveland, posting a 3.06 ERA in 53 innings. He struck out 54 batters in those 53 innings and walked only 12.
Aviles had just recently been dealt to Toronto from the Boston Red Sox on Oct. 21 as part of the trade that brought new manager John Farrell to Boston. The 31-year-old Aviles played in 136 games for the Red Sox last season, hitting .250 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI.
Gomes saw his first major league action in 2012, playing in 43 games for Toronto. The 25-year-old hit just .204 with four home runs and 13 RBI. He played the majority of his games at first base, but he also played several other positions, including catcher. He was the selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft.
