Mike Adams to sign with Phillies, per reports

The Phillies have reportedly reached an agreement to sign reliever Mike Adams for two years and $12 million.

The Philadelphia Phillies will have another arm in their bullpen in 2013. According to Corpus Christi-based KRIS TV and later confirmed by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, among others, Mike Adams and the Phillies have agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract. The deal is contingent on a physical, Rosenthal reports, and includes a vesting option.

Adams, 34, has been a dynamite reliever since 2008 with the San Diego Padres. He was traded in 2011 to the Texas Rangers when the Rangers bulked up their bullpen before making a run to the World Series. Adams' numbers slipped last year, in his only full season in the American League. Adams went 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 52⅓ innings. In San Diego, he never had a WHIP of higher than 1.065, but last year Adams saw his WHIP increase to 1.395.

The Phillies had some struggles in the bullpen behind closer Jonathan Papelbon last year, so Adams should go far toward shoring up their 'pen as they try to make a return run to the playoffs.
