The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly agreed to a deal with left-handed starter John Lannan, according to Jim Salisbury. Lannan received a one-year, $2.5 million contract from Philadelphia, according to Jon Heyman of CBS. Amanda Comak tweeted that the offer also features $2.5 million in incentives.

The Phillies added another left-hander to their pitching staff by signing John Lannan to a one-year deal.

The former National spent most of the 2012 season in the minors, as he failed to earn a spot in the Washington starting rotation after spring training. Lannan was called up to the big leagues in September to replace a decommissioned Stephen Strasburg. In total, the southpaw made six starts, and went 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 2012. While in AAA, Lannan adjusted his mechanics and showed improvements.
Lannan joins an already-strong Phillies starting staff that is headed by Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels, and Cliff Lee. Kyle Kendrick is likely to fill the fifth spot in the rotation.
Phillies fans have a complicated history with Lannan. He became notorious for plunking (and injuring) Philadelphia batters, but the Phillies were 12-1 all-time in games started by Lannan.
