Similarity scores are hogwash

Once I heard that Roberto Hernandez signed with Tampa Bay, I calculated the similarity score between him and former Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitcher Roberto Hernandez, just to try out this quirky little metric. Out of a possible score of 100, their similarity score is roughly 640.

I should have known. The formula does not include:

• Pitchers signed by Tampa Bay and Cleveland
• Roberto Hernandezness
• Number of home runs given up to Miguel Cabrera (three)
• Favorite pizza topping (radishes!?)
