Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was seen on crutches and in a walking boot after sustaining a foot injury in Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman left Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins in the fourth quarter with a foot injury, and did not return to the game. It was not clear how the injury occurred. After the game was over, Edelman was spotted on crutches and with a walking boot.

Matthew Slater replaced Edelman at wide receiver. Edelman had one reception for 13 yards and two punt returns for 25 yards when he exited the match. Slater, a special teams player, had made two tackles in the contest before taking over for Edelman at wide receiver.

Edelman was questionable before the game due to a concussion. He entered the day as the Patriots’ fifth-leading receiver this season, with 222 yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions. Edelman had also made his mark in the return game, with 15 punt returns for 238 yards and a touchdown, and three kickoff returns for 38 yards.
