Randall Cobb uses his brain as much as the rest of his body to help the Packers

Randall Cobb took advantage of a little-known NFL rule that gave the Packers great field position during a kickoff.

Jonathan Daniel

During the Green Bay Packers' Week 16 home blowout of the Tennessee Titans, Randall Cobb showed that his athletic ability and his skill aren't the only reason that he has become such a huge part of the Packers' offense. During a kickoff from the Titans, the ball didn't make it to the end zone. Instead it was rolling towards the sideline right near the end zone where Cobb picked it up, making sure one of his feet were out of bounds.

Due to the fact that his foot was out of bounds when he scooped up the ball, it’s basically like the ball went out of bounds without being touched, giving the Packers the ball on the 40-yard line instead of the 20 or wherever Cobb would have made it during the return.

With a high-powered offense, the Packers having the ball at their own 40 is almost guaranteed to give them at least three points. Intelligent playing like this is a big reason that the Packers lead the Titans by a score of 41-0 early in the fourth quarter.
